Make A Film

Making a 60 second film sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

If you would like to submit a film to M60, you must first register your film at our Registration Party on Wed, July 13 2011 where you will learn the secret theme of the 2010 Festival.

Update, July 14: This year’s theme is CHANCE.

The first 120 films registered on July 13, then created and submitted before Monday, August 14th, 2011 will be screened at the Festival in September.

Film Guidelines

Artistic

  • M60 is open to everyone, regardless of age, filmmaking experience, language or background. Our objective is to encourage everyone, especially those who have never made a film, to make a film.
  • Films may be of any genre (within the limits of decency!).
  • Films may be in any language.
  • Films will be shown “as is”.

Technical

  • Films must be 60 seconds long, no more, no less.
  • Films must be made between July 13 and August 14, 2011.
  • Films must be of sufficient sound quality – make sure any dialogue is as loud and clear as possible.
  • Films should be submitted in the Quicktime movie format (.mov or .dv), or on MiniDV tape, at a minimum resolution of 640×480 and a maximum resolution of 1920×1080. (There’s more information in our FAQ.) If you are having trouble making a Quicktime movie file (you are probably on a PC), follow the instructions on this page.
  • If your film is >500mb, consider giving it to us on CD or unauthored DVD instead of submitting it online.
  • We absolutely do not accept Windows Media (.wmv and .asf) formats.
  • Films must NOT include on-screen credits (information on the cast/director/etc).
  • However, it is okay to include the title of your film, if you wish.
  • Please DO NOT use other people’s (ie, copyrighted) music or video clips unless you have the permission of the artists.

Fine print

  • Submit your film…
    • Online, using our electronic submission form; or
    • by hand (on CD, DVD, MiniDV tape or USB key) to M60, 5865 Jeanne Mance. In this case, you must include a paper copy of our CREDITS FORM.
  • If submitting your film on DVD, only unauthored DVDs will be accepted.
  • By submitting your film you are also authorizing it for screening & promotional use by M60.
  • If M60 receives a corrupted or incomplete file from you, we will do what we can to contact you and obtain a working version. If we can’t, we obviously won’t be able to screen your film.
  • Please submit original work and do not submit films that infringe any laws, including copyright.
  • Please stick to our theme for 2011, CHANCE.
  • Please only begin creating your film after July 13, and you must submit your film before August 14th.
