This year’s M60 theme was revealed to be:

ADVENTURE

Besides registration, and a give-away of extraordinary hand-drawn Montreal maps by Adam Waito, we also had marvelous talks by Adam Gollner (buy his book), on his quest for the ladyfruit, and D’Arcy O’Connor, on Montreal’s West End Gang. Plus turtles, bearded lizards, and a gigantic python courtesy of surprise guests Reptizoo.

But now is the fun part. One month for our registered filmmakers to create their movies! Films are due August 23 – details for submissions are here. Good luck!

I’ve admired the M60′s egalitarian spirit since its first run two years ago, when I spent about an hour and a half in a packed makeshift movie theatre at Sala Rosa watching rapid fire nuggets of film genius. Some M60 participants have been professional filmmakers … but the vast majority of participants have been regular people trying something they never thought they’d do, or perhaps finally making that film they’d had bumping around in their heads for years and years.

Make a film! All those who registered at our party now have one month to complete their movies! The 2010 festival theme is ADVENTURE.

Submit your one-minute masterpiece by August 23.

Festival screenings take place October 7, 8 and 9.

The registration party for our 2010 festival is happening Friday, July 23rd at Casa Del Popolo, 4873 Boulevard Saint Laurent.

For the third straight year, we will be hosting a marvelous shindig – with entertainment, information, and of course a chance for filmmakers to register for this year’s festival. We will even be revealing this year’s top secret theme! But it’s not a lecture: this is an evening celebrating the bright horizons of the world of filmmaking; a chance to hang out, gear up, and dance.

The party will include surprise entertainment, tied to this year’s theme. We’re super excited about this year’s performers – thrilling, one-of-a-kind, and honestly like nothing Casa has ever seen before. Plus workshops, give-aways, our screen-test booth, and DJs from Said the Gramophone.

Anyone wishing to make a film for the 2010 festival must register in person on July 23, or send an ambassador. There is no entry fee for the night, or registration fees for the festival, but sign-ups are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
